PROGNOSIS
Hearing aids have made a huge difference in many people. Some people do not adapt well to hearing aids, some adapt wonderfully. There are some key elements to successful hearing improvement.
- Attitude for change - the world will not be the same when a hearing impaired person begins to hear again. A successful journey to better hearing requires a positive attitude, and a desire to hear better.
- Realistic expectations - hearing instruments can greatly enhance one's ability to hear but they do not recreate the hearing one had at his/her youth. A person with hearing loss should not expect to hear everything perfectly when wearing hearing instruments.
- A hearing success story begins with a series of visits with the hearing aid dispenser where the dispenser makes appropriate changes in the programming of the hearing instrument based on the patient's real-life experiences.
- The most important ingredient in the mix for success is that the patient actually wears the hearing instrument. This goes back to the attitude statement; things will be changing and if the patient will only give it a fair chance, the prognosis for significantly improved hearing is great.
