HEARING LOSS DESCRIPTORS

Bilateral or unilateral: Both ears are affected or only one ear is affected.

Symmetrical or Asymmetrical: The hearing loss is the same in both ears, or the hearing los is different in both ears.

PROGRESSIVE OR SUDDEN HEARING LOSS

With a progressive hearing loss, the loss occurs over a period of time, where as with the Sudden hearing loss, something triggers the loss to happen suddenly.

Fluctuating or stable loss: People with physical conditions may hear better on some days than others. This can be caused by fluid in the middle ear, or other medical conditions. Stable loss is the same every day.
